Develop General Hospital in Trincomalee

US has agreed to provide Rs. 500 million financial assistance to develop the General Hospital in Trincomalee on Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva’s request. The Health Minister addressing US officials recently in Washington, said the Sri Lankan Government had taken several steps through the Eastern Resurgence Programme to develop the Eastern Province.

Rising food prices(wheat and rice ) threaten to undermine recent gains in poverty reduction and frustrate already slow progress toward the Millennium Development Goals.

Sri Lanka Ban On Bulbs Over 75 W.

The Power and Energy Ministry, in coordination with the Sustainable Energy Authority and the Sri Lanka Standards Bureau will introduce the new legislation. The Ministry has already contacted the Legal Draftman to prepare provisions that could be gazetted. Those who defy the regulation would be prosecuted. Meanwhile, a senior engineer of the CEB, while welcoming the move, said that households do not require bulbs of more than 75 Watts.
Update:
Ministry of Power and Energy of Sri Lanka says that it would provide energy saving compact fluorescent bulbs free of charge to all religious establishments within the next two weeks.
